Simple skirt – from Whipstitch’s Online Course

August 9, 2012

I recently took Rae’s advice and signed up for the Whipstitch online course “Sewing for Kids.” Actually, the course was offered right around when I was having my baby, so instead, she gave me access to all the online course material which I went through at my own pace. Who am I kidding? I’m still going through it!

Anyways, this is the first project from the course: a simple skirt! I made one regular one, and one double layered one.

As you can see…

I didn’t look at the hello kitty fabric close enough, and ended up making it upside down =( I actually sat there and loked at it before cutting to make sure I was doing it correctly, and somehow my scatterbrained brain did not interpret the design correctly. My husband, on the other hand, noticed it right away and his first comments when seeing the skirt were: “It’s cute! But you realize you made it upside down, right?” It is a running joke that I tend to dive into projects without planning first as opposed to the way he plans FOREVER before starting. Well…this is a direct consequence of that!

Luckily, R is not nearly as picky of a critic.

She pretty much likes all hello kitty, and ANYTHING to do with “The Very Hungry Caterpillar! (score on that fabric find!)”

I also recently bought some simple labels from Namaker.com.  I wanted to do something cute with a design, but I couldn’t decide fast enough, and I really wanted to start putting labels on.  So here they are, simple and to the point!

I  think I’ll tackle the Pinafore next!
